ESC Assemble Hangout

Post by NeonNocturnal on Wed Sep 04, 2013 7:37 am

This can be where we all chill, wind down, generally chat and even let off steam every now and then. Being part of a fandom means you get to meet new friends and continue to socialise and discuss life things with them. I think it would be nice for us all to get along, eat cupcakes and hold hands as we skip through rainbows together.

So yeah... let's hangout Smile

(This topic means we can talk, basically.)

Especially considering how there was always that part during our tinychats where we'd all get deep and it'd just turn into a big group hug, those are the best Very Happy

but yeah, I start school again tomorrow, agh, nerves, and on top of that I've had some friend drama in another fandom that's shitty but whatever, I'll colour my hair, that should make me feel better.

This obviously doesn't need to be all deep and shit it's just that kinda day, haha.

Re: ESC Assemble Hangout

I feel a bit of a failure after graduating.
I've had to take a gap year and move back in with my parents.
I don't mind the moving back home so much, my parents are so easy to live with and I have all the same freedoms as if I wasn't living there and I have some really amazing friends here who are so understanding and always there when I need them and vice-versa.

I want to go into teaching so using this year to gain experience alongside a part time job, which is paying me peanuts and I'm basically working 2 days a week at the school for free.

I had an interview at said school for a Teaching Assistant position but they gave it to someone else saying that I didn't sell myself enough in my interview. I'm not really the selling myself kind of person so I can understand that, but neither of the other two candidates were that bothered about teaching. One girl was on a gap year after A-levels and the other guy was half-heartedly thinking about teaching because he couldn't find any graduate jobs. My only ever career choice has been teaching and this has been the case for about 7 years now.

It's a bit more hurtful that I keep seeing people from my course either starting teacher training or getting Teaching Assistant jobs, a good 60% of these people having said they'd never go into teaching during uni.

I just feel like a big fat fail at the moment, stuck at the same place I was before uni seeing other people doing the things I want on their whims.

Meh.

@ Alex: What color are you dying your hair?

@ NeonNocturnal: I know the feeling. I'm somewhat in the same position as well. As cliche as this sounds, you just have to remember to not compare yourselves to other people. We're all on different paths and it just takes us awhile to get us where we need to be. This quote pretty much sums it up http://tmblr.co/Z_xbTytcXqaR (excuse the self-promotion)

Thank you, that was a really nice read and I guess I need to stop comparing. I've always done this. I always feel like no one cares (outside those who should like family and the bf) and that everyone things I'm average or not as good as others.

Maybe it's insecurity and lack of confidence.

You're welcome. Smile

It's hard not to compare yourself to others. It's a nasty habit of mine, but I'm working through it.

I'll send you some positive vibes.

This is a judge free zone, haha.

I may have a thing for Liam, but he's a child in my eyes.

I think I am in no place to judge since I have seen One Direction live so hope you enjoy(ed) the movie Alex! My best friend is going to drag me there too soon. Benefit #65840 of having a Directioner friend.

Also this hangout is the best I think. I should be studying Maths for tomorrow's mock exam. I would explain Finnish high school system to you but I honestly don't think anyone's interested so just know that I hate Maths but have to take a Very Important Maths Exam in three weeks. Boo.

I think as a product, One Direction are excruciatingly annoying, the weird fans make things worse as well. As for their music, I'm really fed up of dance-pop and dubstep and every decent artists selling themselves to this shit. Whatever happened to just good old pure honest pop? As far as I'm concerned One Direction are one of extremely few artists making this, even though I'm not a fan per se, I prefer their music to that of Rhianna or even Katy Perry (who's first album I adored.)

I know how this feels too. I'm at the end of my university studies so I'm starting to freak out about the future but I know what I want to do and I just need to do it for my sake, no matter how long it takes. I agree too, try not to compare to others because it will support the negative feelings. I think the best thing that I have come to understand is that you aren't alone. There are people who are going through the same issues. Talking about it to them is a really good idea, I know it helped me. You can be a crutch for them as much as they are a crutch for you. I think that could be used for other issues, but I think mainly feeling insecure is an issue that it helps with. Everyone's insecure.

I hope you feel better soon Smile Everything takes time. I know what I want to do in life but it will take awhile to get there. I don't like the way my life is right now but I feel like in a few years I'll be so much more happier (and by that time I'll have gone to Eurovision so that would make me so happy).

Did all the paper-work for my placement yesterday, kind of excited to get on with this gap year and start doing the thing I'm taking the gap-year for. Hopefully this will help me feel better about life and that.

I saw a dream a few nights ago where Lordi represented us again but with a pop song and I talked to Mr. Lordi (who wasn't wearing the mask btw) and he was just like "Last time we weren't that sure we were going to win, but this time we are." This was pretty amusing. :-D

I'm afraid I only saw the making of the music video (the studio had pink walls) and heard the song (which was actually kind of good in my mind but really pop-ish) but woke up before the contest started, so we'll never know.
I don't know where this came from though since I really don't want Lordi to represent us again. The first time was so magical that I don't want it to be ruined by a not-so-stellar performance some time in the future.

I wish music like Lordi's would be accepted in ESC without the gimmick though...

Ah I know. Which brings to mind, today we were doing an old listening comprehension test in English and there was a bit about Finland and the speaker was like "Finland is the #1 eurotrash country since their win in the Eurovision Song Competition in 2006 with Lordi." and I was so distracted that I almost missed the point. OOPS. Yes Hard Rock Hallelujah was definitely eurotrash. But yes I do hope "weird" songs/performances like HRH wouldn't necessarily be labelled, well, weird.

Now, back to studying svenska. I have the Swedish matriculation exam (like A-levels I guess?? Idk) on Friday so if there's anything related to Swedish that anyone wants to ask, I'll be glad to help. After Friday my Swedish will start its slow degradation unless I end up in a uni where they use Swedish so now's the time! (:
